MECHANICS

- Only bona fide UP Diliman students of the 2nd semester, A.Y. 2011-2012 can participate in this contest.
- Participants shall answer as a team (maximum of 3 members). A team is either composed of chemistry majors or non-chemistry majors only. Substitution of members from the audience or from other teams is not allowed.
- The questions shall be based on GE courses and shall be classified into the following fields: Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences & Philosophy, Natural Sciences & Math.
- The “Question and Answer” Format shall be used and all teams shall answer each question simultaneously. The answers shall be written on the answer sheets/boards to be provided.
- The Technical Committee shall decide on all the complaints/protests filed by any team. The Technical Committee shall entertain no complaints/protests after the next question is read. The decisions of the Technical Committee are final and irrevocable. 
- Each question will have an appropriate time limit. Failure to give an answer in time will be considered a wrong answer.
- All final answers must be encircled. 
Only one answer must be given to every question. Two or more answers to a given question shall automatically be considered incorrect unless otherwise specified.
- Misspelled answers shall be considered incorrect.
Legitimate or accepted abbreviations shall be accepted unless otherwise specified.
- Any participant who is caught cheating shall be removed from the game and shall not be given a certificate of participation.

Elimination Round

There shall be 15 questions – 5 questions from each field. One point is given for every correct answer. 
The top three chemistry major teams and top three non-chemistry major teams shall proceed to the next round. Should there be a tie, tie-breaking question/s shall be asked and the team that answers correctly qualifies for the next stage.
The results of the elimination round are final and non-contestable.

Semi-final Round

There shall be 15 questions – five from each field. 
Only the top chemistry and non-chemistry teams shall proceed to the final round. Should there be a tie, tie-breaking question/s shall be asked and the team that answers correctly qualifies for the next stage.
The results of the semi-final round are final and non-contestable.

Final Round

The chemistry major team and non-chemistry major team shall compete. One participant from each team shall face-off with the other representative. The chosen representative will be the one to answer the questions, use the cheats, and choose the category from the question board. 
Each team shall be given three cheats namely 1) Copy 2) Peek 3) Exchange. Copy allows the representative to copy an answer from one of its team mates. Peek allows the representative to ask his/her team mate for an answer. Exchange will allow the substitution of the curent representative to any of the remaining team members. This substitution is then final and irreversible.
Categories shall be chosen by each team alternately.
There shall be 9 questions posted on the question board– 3 from each field, (one easy, one average, and one difficult). Each correct answer corresponds to a particular amount of money gained by each team: Difficult P300, Average P200, and Easy P100.
Team with the higher amount of money collected shall be declared as winner. 
The amount of money gained by the winning team will be given in full, while the losing team will obtain half of their accumulated winnings. 
Should there be a tie, tie-breaking question/s (with no cash equivalent involved) shall be asked and the team that answers correctly shall be declared as winner.
The winning team shall be given a chance to answer the jackpot question. 

Jackpot Round

1. The winning team will choose one of the three categories in which the jackpot question will come from. All team members can participate in this round.
2. The jackpot question have a monetary value of P1000.00; which if answered correctly, shall be added to the total winnings of the team.
